Grade Level: 9

Subject: Science (Space Unit)

Description:
Students will be asked to download the “Virtual Field Trip off the website to their computers. It takes about 5 minutes, so they could explore the website further while they waited for the download. It is also a free download, so the school wouldn’t need to contribute any funding for the lecture to happen. The virtual field trip program brings students all over the earth and into the different crusts in the earth’s core. It is done through photos and video. They can even choose to travel to Mars to see pictures! It is updated regularly, so there are always the newest pictures available on the site. Textbooks and website cannot offer this up-to-date information. When students are done exploring, they would be asked to choose a location and write a description about why they found it interesting, and what it looked like to them. They would also be asked about the land formations they see and where they think it is located.

General Learner Outcome:
-Investigate and describe ways that human understanding of Earth and space has depended on technological development.

Specific Learner Outcome:
-Investigate and illustrate the contributions of technological advances- including optical telescopes, spectral analysis, and space travel – to a scientific understanding of space

ICT Outcomes:
-Students will critically asses information accessed through the use of a variety of technologies.
-Students will use technology to aid collaboration during inquiry
-Students will use electronic research techniques to construct personal knowledge and meaning.
-Students will organize and manipulate data

Rationale for Computer Integration:
The integration of computers is crucial in this lesson because it encourages students to look at the newest and most recent news regarding space travel, right from the source. The program lets you see photos of all levels of the earth, as well as photos of Mars. They control their own learning, adding a humanistic teaching approach.

Communications Technology - Module 1 Assignment

Hi!

Wow... PS1! Exciting stuff! I'm so glad to be in the program, and am excited to get into the classroom. I'm a third year English major and I completed my first 2 years at Mount Royal College in Calgary, AB. I'm missing home, but I know that this program is where I'm meant to be. I enjoy my job working in the Copy and Print Centre at Staples, and look forward to working at the store here in Lethbridge. I love studying Education, and love learning how the brain works as well as gaining tips on teaching new concepts and idea's to students. I hope to one day work in a rehabilitation facility of a juvinile detention centre in a teacher/ tutor role. I have a passion for working with at risk teens and I hope to inspire confidence and a lust for life within my students.

I'm thrilled to be here at U of L, and am so excited for the semester!
